Role Overview
The Power BI Specialist will own and evolve the organization’s business intelligence platform by transforming complex, multi-source data into actionable insights. This role is responsible for maintaining and extending an existing Power BI environment with advanced data models, extensive DAX measures, and automated refresh pipelines, while partnering closely with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
Power BI Development & Maintenance
Own and maintain existing Power BI dashboards, including Executive Summary, Daily Sales, and Business Health Monitor.
Write and optimize DAX measures for revenue analysis, budget variance, subscription health, and predictive metrics.
Build new reports and visualizations as business needs evolve.
Ensure reliable data refresh processes and troubleshoot pipeline failures.
Data Modeling & Integration
Maintain a star schema dimensional model with clear separation of fact and dimension tables.
Integrate data from Recurly, Salesforce, Teachable, QuickBooks, and NetSuite (post-implementation).
Develop Power Query (M) transformations for data cleansing and normalization.
Document field mappings, transformation logic, and business rules.
Cross-Functional Partnership
Partner with Finance on budget vs. actuals reporting, variance analysis, and revenue recognition.
Support Marketing with attribution analysis and campaign performance reporting.
Translate business questions into KPIs and measurable analytics.
Train end users on self-service reporting capabilities.
Qualifications
Experience
3+ years of hands-on Power BI experience, including Power Query, DAX, and data modeling.
Experience with star schema design and dimensional modeling.
SQL experience for data validation and troubleshooting.
Skills
Strong DAX proficiency, including time intelligence, iterators, and context transition.
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with subscription or SaaS metrics such as MRR, churn, and cohort analysis.
Familiarity with Recurly, Salesforce, or Teachable integrations.
Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, or similar ETL tools.
Background working with education, training, or multi-entity organizations.
Basic Python skills for ad-hoc analysis or data validation.
